A complete picture of the northern countryside scene of Vietnam has been painted by painter Tran Nguyen. Trained as a painter, Nguyen has created paintings that depict three-roomed gable houses with vegetable gardens, fish ponds, and brick water wells that many people living in the northern provinces must have grown up with. In addition to this picture, the tiled village road, the rice fields, the laden loofah, the image of the fruit-laden loofah, are all included. The artistry of Nguyen’s paintings lies in the people he depicts.

Tran Nguyen frequently spends a lot of time wearing cameras and exploring the countryside to capture village scenes in all regions of Vietnam. He says that some of his drawings document the experiences of being closely tied to grandparents, parents, and other dear village characters that he remembers from his childhood. His landscape paintings were painted with the intention of helping future generations to preserve the scenes of their childhoods. He also hopes to assist future generations in imagining their grandparents’ lives and experiences.
